I would say I felt like drawing happy lesbians except I headcanon Toph as pansexual so that would be only half accurate.One failing of the Avatar canon is that we’re presented with such a heteronormative world that I can’t help headcanoning that the same social stigmas exist for other identities as in the real world. It’s part of how I write my lady Zuko, and I think a lot about that moment when she realizes: it’s okay.Reblogging this older piece in light of the recent Korra finale and confirmation from Bryke, because I am now very wrong about how heteronormative this world is and very happy to be so. =)I hope this series provides its younger viewers with some of the affirmation they very much need and deserve.
