AIWA TP-707P (1967) Compact Cassette RecorderVintage tape recorder from 1967, fully restored. This is my favorite of all my vintage portable tape recorders, I particularly like the horizontal orientation and the old Phillips Compact Cassette logo. This model has a very high build quality for it’s time, not the simple transport mechanisms common in other shoebox type recorders of the day. The carry handle is steel and the whole thing is very solidly built.Notable is the lack of a record protect notch sensor so it will record regardless of the notch on the cassette. To record you must hold down the record button before and while pressing the forward key. Pressing the record button after play is engaged has no effect. The record level meter doubles as a battery meter during playback. There is no auto stop mechanism either. The door snaps shut and must be manually opened and closed. The eject lever simply lifts the bottom edge of the cassette up slightly to make it easier to remove the tape after you have opened the door. There is a standard compliment of inputs and outputs. Remote, Microphone, Aux (line level input), Earphone and a center positive 6VDC input. The unit takes 4x C cell batteries.More PhotosThe supply and take-up reels are braked. The wheel in-between is for FFWD & REW.The PCB is also much more complex and denser than most I’ve seen from this era. The drive belt path engages the take-up reel clutch. There is a separate belt for FFWD & REW driven by a tire that engages against the flywheel. The motor speed does not appear to be adjustable. -- source link
