cma-medieval-art:Historiated Initial (O) Excised from an Antiphonary: The Donor, Gorus Fucci, Kneels before Christ, c. 1300-1350, Cleveland Museum of Art: Medieval ArtMedieval donors of illuminated manuscripts sometimes had their names, coats-of-arms, or, as is the case here, their portraits painted into the book. The inscription beneath the initial reads: hoc op[us] lib[r]i: gor[us] fvcii fec[it] f[ieri] (Gorus Fucii had this work of a book made). The manuscript was probably donated to an ecclesiastical foundation with which Fucci was connected. Little is known about the career of the artist.Size: Sheet: 13.4 x 13.4 cm (5 ¼ x 5 ¼ in.)Medium: ink, tempera, and gold on parchmenthttps://clevelandart.org/art/1951.314 -- source link
