ziseviolet: fouryearsofshades: It is a modernized Tang style round collar robe - the collar is standing up (early Tang), yet showing the inner top (not together with standing-collar in Tang). Only the Tang style round-collar robe can be fashionably accepted to be worn with the top button unbutton. The collar of Ming-style round collar robe does not stand up like this. Also generally less fit-fit as per the whole Ming style. (A modern example: x) Round collar robe in Tang dynasty was a male clothing that was popular among the ladies. The round collar robe has slowly retreated from daily wear after Tang and by Ming, it was generally a ceremonious clothings or clothings of officials etc. An inaccurate way of telling them apart: Modern Tang-style round collar robe is cool and casual, Song style round collar robe is no where to be seen (at least, I haven’t seen one in the market), while Ming-style round collar robe is grand and formal. If the collar could be worn opened, it is Tang-style. If the bottom looked huge (have lots and lots of fabrics), it is probably Ming-style. These Tang Dynasty-style round-collar robes (yuanlingpao/圆领袍) are from 流烟昔泠/Liuyanxiling’s Hanfu (han chinese clothing) collection. -- source link
