marvelentertainment:Costoberfest Spotlight - Jessica LG & Jim Logan—-Introduce Yourself!Jessica: Hello All! I am Jessica. I was raised on Star Trek, comics, and too many cartoons. I’ve been a doodler of ideas since I could hold a pencil. I went to school for Design & Production and I’m currently living in California working as a digital artist.Jim: I am Jim Logan, a cosplayer based out of Long Beach, California. How long have you been cosplaying? What was your first costume?Jessica: I’ve been wearing costumes since I was a kid. I was always involved in some kind of performance program at school. My mom made a lot of my costumes growing up, but the first costume I remember making myself was a terrible Mrs. Incredible costume for a superhero event in high school. It didn’t fit, the mask was floppy and it was just awful. The first time I wore a costume as “cosplay” was actually for a LARP event in North Carolina in 2008.Jim: My first costume was Wolverine of course! I was a professional wrestler for some time prior to my first Comic Convention in 2010, which is actually what brought me to my first one. I was booked to wrestle in a Super-Hero themed wrestling show at the convention and my portrayal of Wolverine got such a positive reaction that I was hooked! It’s silly to say, probably because I am a guy, but Yaya Han had a booth at this convention and she kind of became my idol and inspiration. I was so curious of how one gets into such a thing, I wanted in!Do you make your costumes? If so, include us in the process!Jessica: I’ve made my costumes, I’ve commissioned pieces, and I’ve worked alongside others to put costumes together; a variety. Because of funds, I pretty much have to put together my own costumes. I like to learn new things so I’m always listening to suggestions on different techniques or reading things on the internet. I’m going back to the basics, though. Just bought a collection of base patterns for my costumes for the next few conventions I plan to attend. I’m also challenging myself to some more difficult sculpting and prop projects I hope to have in time for Stan Lee’s Comikaze. The thought process in my head is always to beat myself or my previous costume.Jim: Yes, I make my own stuff as well as projects for many friends within the cosplay community. Although I have always been handy and somewhat artistic in my life, this was a new and exciting thing for me. Over the past few years I have learned so much, every new project is another challenge and learning experience….BONDO!What would be your dream Marvel costume?Jessica: Probably a character like Wolfsbane from X-Men. It’s something out of my comfort zone that would require heavy makeup and prosthetics and reverse stilts. It would have to be a collaboration with other special effects artists because it’s unfamiliar territory to me.Jim: I want to say this is a tough question, but the first thing that comes to mind is full Iron Man armor. I have made one full arm thus far as you can see in some photos of my portayal of Tony Stark. I hope that I will eventually find the time to complete the rest of the suit - with speakers blasting AC/DC through out the convention floor. What would you say is your favorite part about cosplaying?Jessica: Having a creative outlet. It’s important to me not to get lost in the everyday mundane. I always feel the need to be working on something! (I blame my parents for overly supporting my weirdness.) I have so many concepts and ideas rattling through my brain that I want brought to life and Cosplay is a great way to do that. And, I am lucky that I get to incorporate my hobby with the digital art I do in my career. I don’t feel like I’m wasting my time because costuming coincides as a stepping stone.Jim: Much like when I was wrestling I enjoy being in character and entertaining through this. It was an easy transition, from the hokey acting to posing, and interacting with fans. I really try to only be characters I can really BE, nothing like a child’s reaction believing you came right off the page or screen to chat with him/her! The real challenge and fun in that sense is getting adults to react the same!—-Thanks Jessica & Jim!
