mantaraycyrus:snorlax-and-co:mantaraycyrus:as someone with both mental and physical disabilities, this is an incredibly tone deaf post. “people with physical heath conditions” or those who are physically disabled, are still treated like shit. We are still ignored. We are still killed. Please listen to us when we say these kinds of posts are ableist. thank youI probably shouldn’t respond to this as I don’t want any conflict but your response has really rubbed me the wrong way, including your tags: First off, you don’t get to decide what I post/delete from my own blog.Secondly, I am both physically and mentally disabled myself and I agree with the original post. My partner is physically disabled. I’m fully aware we are still treated like shit. I don’t understand why you think this is ableism. The way l understand the original post is wanting equality in treatment/compassion towards both mental and physical disabilities. I’m sorry if you interpreted it in a different way but I certainly don’t read it as discriminatory towards those with physical disabilities (and neither am I). I know we don’t always get the ‘support and compassion’ our physical disabilities deserve, I’m very aware of that trust me, but please don’t call me ableist for sharing something that talks about getting support/compassion for mental illness as well. It doesn’t mean those with physical disabilities always get the help they need, but in some cases it is easier to have your physical disabilities recognised/believed in. Some, not all. No. These are two things that literally should not be compared. This sentiment is literally rooted in ableism. Being physically disabled yourself does not change this. I don’t care about the “some cases” I care about the fact that posts like these set a standard that people while physical disabilities have a “privileged” status in the community when they DO NOT. Mental illness/disabilities are not to be compared to physical illness/disabilities. Stop treating this shit like the oppression olympics!!! Like none of what you said discredits anything I have said. Your literally defending ableism. Which, yes I know the fucking definition of. That’s why I USED IT!Hey, how many times are physically disabled people going to say shit like this isn’t ok before people actually listen? And no, being physically disabled yourself doesn’t give you a pass. -- source link
