naamahdarling:prismatic-bell:quiteliterallyhotsauce:it’s too important to ignore.PERIOD. “Political differences” are things like: should we pay for a school district upgrade via a penny tax or a purchased bond? How should we update our roadways? Which is more important to invest in, new parks or promoting our existing museums?“Are people actually people, and do they deserve life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness?” is not a political difference. It is an act of aggression.Yeah, a political difference is disagreeing about whether to develop some parkland so a poor part of town can have a grocery store or if the parkland should stand because it provides a safe place for neighborhood activities. A political difference is not whether disabled people should be given enough food and money to live comfortably on, or whether I should be allowed to get an abortion if I don’t want to be pregnant, or if I can get married so that I will have the mundane benefits of that like IDK being allowed to visit them in the hospital when they are dying, or make decisions for them instead of their abusive family, or whether I deserve not to be shot if the police are called to help me during a suicidal episode. Those are ETHICAL differences and enormous ethical differences that pit one person’s bad ideas against another person’s existence are a very good reason not to have anything to do with them. -- source link
