Gene Bilbrew (1923-74) is one of the masters of vintage sleaze - illustrated erotic magazines and novels sold under the counter in the 1950s and ‘60s. These professionals catered for most erotic tastes, so our interest was just one among many. The quality of these images differs widely, some are very well done. But most of the time I find it difficult to relate to the busty prodomes typical for the genre. There is also an unpleasant association with shoddy bookshops and nervous middle aged men in raincoats. This one however depicts a fairly peaceful scene, and there are nice details like the handbag hanging on the chair. Bilbrew was an African American who also worked under the names Van Rod, Bondy and Eneg. He has a small lemma in Wikipedia, more information can be found in Jim Linderman’s blog. -- source link
