FUCKING DONE WITH TUMBLRAs some of you, my dear non-bot followers, might have noticed, there was no new post on my tumblr yesterday at the usual time. My account was terminated by @staff without any notice or explanation. I contacted support immediately, but it took them almost 24 hours to restore it. It’s the second time it happened and, on both occasions, I received no explanation or apology, not even a simple heads-up like “hey, we restored your stupid blog thing”. I’ve been posting my own ORIGINAL generative art on tumblr for EVERY DAY for OVER FIVE YEARS already. Didn’t post any porn, didn’t breach any rules or guidelines, didn’t steal anything. Most of my art is abstract, for fuck’s sake! My tumblr has close to 5000 followers, so I guess there are some actual people that enjoy my silly moving pictures, even though, admittedly, most of it is mediocre crap.It’s been a rough five years. From the user experience perspective, Tumblr was awful to begin with, and every change they did was irrelevant at best, but usually just a new level of awful. Hell, they even made me learn how to write my own fucking Chrome extension to deal with some of this shit! Not to mention the porn bots, the idiotic nipple-detection algorithms flagging ABSTRACT art, people stealing art and reporting original creators, ads overload and that when you happen to track a tag that you also post with, guess what’s going to show up in your feed on every page? Yup, that fucking thing you posted yesterday, over and over again (and you can’t even make it go away like the other posts). Well, TBH I haven’t seen this one in a while, so it might have been finally fixed, but still remains my pet peeve :)Anyway, all of this made me realize that the effort and the time I’ve been putting into this does not sparkle joy any more for me. The realization that all of this might be gone in a second for ABSOLUTELY NO FUCKING REASON is too much to handle. Hence the decision to just quit. There are still some unpublished posts in the queue, so it’s going to continue for the time being, but after it runs dry… It doesn’t end with a bang, it ends with a FUCK YOU, TUMBLR!PS. I’m generally disillusioned about this whole thing, but if anyone can recommend a better site for posting original art, I might consider moving there. It needs to support animated gifs, have a friendly community and staff, post queuing etc. -- source link
