myancientworld:Source. This papyrus fragment contains three lines from Book 20 from Homer’s Odyssey. This piece dates back to the early Hellenistic period, around 285-250BC.Book 20 is when tensions are almost at their highest: Odysseus is fearful at the high number of suitors he and Telemachus will have to overcome, and the suitors themselves start to rumble with Ctesippus lugging a cow’s hoof at Odysseus. This, and the eagle carrying a dove in its talons, are all symbolic of the growing tension of what will follow in the next few books. -- source link
