Barbarians (Netflix) S01E01 When bearded and burly Commander Talio (Florian Schmidtke) is told that he and his men will be helping the Romans by Arminius (Laurence Rupp), Talio makes a disparaging remark about the Roman Empire in German, not realising that Arminius understands him.Talio has this wonderful “oh, shit” look on his face and then we get a shot of his back. His shirt has been ripped open and his back is realistically bloody as a Roman soldier lashes him. We see that this is a very informal punishment - Talio is on his knees with his arms held by too other soldiers. Arminius is clearing enjoying the punishment, and Talio is really feeling the sting of the whip, and the humiliation of being whipped in front of his men. -- source link
