renaesense:Earlier this year, my dear friend Eve invited me to contribute to the third issue of her amazing magazine - The Ideology. She even said I could add in an illustration if I wanted to. Of course, I was a little nervous. But because Eve showed me so much love and support, and honestly it was such fun collaborating with her and getting feedback from her, I persevered on. It was also quite the reprieve from the crazy semester I was having. And viola!.In my piece, I wrote about the anxieties of trying to do good and be a good person. Often we’re overwhelmed all the issues of the world (or the bit that we know), by the labels we carry, and the expectations that come with them. We feel pressure and sometimes unknowingly pressure others to engage in discourse in ways that feel forced.I encourage everyone to take part in whatever cause or movement, but not necessarily in ways that make you feel like you’re losing a sense of who you are.If you sing, sing. If art is your thing, make art. If rallies are your thing, go for it. If it’s all about talking to people, do that. If it’s a mix of everything, do that. There is no one way to be a good person or to do good… or to be (insert specific label here like feminist). I applaud you for trying to leave the world a better place than how you found it, but don’t destroy yourself in the process. What good does that do then?.The Ideology is available at BooksActually! Both online and in stores. Issue 3 looks at the struggles of growing up and reconciling with yourself. Check it out here! -- source link
