feaqu:apprehensive shark would like 2 remind u of a thingOkay, you know what? I am tired of seeing posts like this from white people like me. No one is obligated to post about Ferguson. Your space is your space, and by ALL MEANS, use appropriate self-care. But by making posts like this, you’re basically saying “Not all white people”. You’re showing your privilege in an appalling fashion, because you have the OPTION of just ignoring what’s going on, because let’s face it, ultimately it doesn’t affect your day to day life.YES, take care of yourself, but you don’t have to broadcast it in an effort to try and make yourself look like a ‘good’ white person. You’re making it about YOU, and this is not about you. Or me. Or anyone who isn’t black. If people are being harassed about not posting about Ferguson, then let’s deal with that harassment, but I swear to god, if I see one more self-serving post about how “I can’t, but I’m not a bad person” I’m going to lose it. This is not the time for white people to ask for reassurance from anybody about this topic.Yes, take care of yourselves, all of you. But if you have an option for self care that black people don’t (like ignoring what’s going on or pretending it’s not happening), don’t flaunt it. It’s incredibly rude.Signed, a white person who also has mental illnesses and triggers -- source link
