vandaliatraveler:Part 2 of 2: The rich floodplain forest along the Monongahela River at Friendship Hill National Historic Site is an amazing place for a hike, even in a light drizzle. In fact, the drizzly overcast yesterday accentuated the new spring greens and vivid wildflower hues all the more. Yet more lovely wildflowers from our hike (top to bottom): squirrel corn (Dicentra canadensis), closely related to Dutchman’s breeches; great white trillium (Trillium grandiflorum), which was literally spilling down the hillsides alongside blue cohosh (top photo); sessile trillium (Trillium sessile), an enchanting, clumping wildflower also known as toadshade; dwarf larkspur (Delphinium tricorne), a gorgeous little cow-killer; wild blue phlox (Phlox divaricata), also known as woodland phlox; golden ragwort (Packera aurea); and wake robin (Trillium erectum), also known as purple trillium and red trillium. -- source link
