lensblr-network:While most visitors to Zion National Park target (and never leave) the main canyon, the upper east canyon (on the eastern side of the park) holds some of the best scenery and hikes. Besides the well known formation known as Checkerboard Mesa, there are a ton of really fascinating formations and hikes to discover on the east side. You can use any of the pullouts and scramble up (or down) some of the coolest slickrock you will ever find. This little gem of a tree springing to life from the sandstone mound is no more than fifty yards from an easy pullover, yet most people cruise on by with eyes only for the main canyon. You never know what wonders are hidden around the bend when you venture a bit off the beaten path.
