findingrabbit:June 17, 2016 When in DROUGHT - save water any way you can. Here’s what we’ve been doing the past year or so. 1) SHOWER WATER: We stick a mop bucket in the tub to collect the water that is warming up. No one likes a cold shower - or wasting water. 2) RANDOM CUPS OF WATER: No need to throw down the sink - throw it out the window instead! (If you have an eavestrough and water barrel to catch it, haha) 3) VEGETABLE WATER: I keep most of our vegetables in water - and after a couple days it needs to be refreshed! Again, no need to throw down the sink. Water your plants with awesome carrot/celery infused water, haha. I’m sure there are many more ways to save water around the house, so please comment below if you do something different!A few more suggestions - some require home ownership though.4) NAVY SHOWERS: Turn on water just enough to get wet. Turn off water, soap/shampoo up. Turn on water, wash soap off. – For bonus points, stand in a bucket to catch your used shower water. Use this to flush your toilet. – Extra bonus points: if you use Dr. Bronners (and you remember to dilute it before using), you can pour your bucket water on plants that have aphids and other bug issues. 5) TOILET: “If it’s yellow let it mellow; if it’s brown flush it down”. You don’t actually have to flush a toilet with potable water. Rainwater will work just fine. There’s also shoving things in the tanks of toilets, lo-flow toilets which use less water, and of course composting toilets for the truly adventurous.6) ROOF: Get a metal roof (eventually). You can more easily/safely collect rainwater for use than with shingles and tar, it can be used in the garden or to flush toilets. -- source link
