10th century CE Ancient Crosses and Anglo Saxon features of Penmon Priory, Anglesey, North Wales, 13.5.17. Following Viking raids on the original wooden church that stood in this area; a stone church was constructed. Two ancient crosses stand inside the priory site although it is though that they predate the original buildings. Both are likely 10th century CE and are clearly marked with Scandinavian influenced knot work and motifs. The buildings are wrought with strong examples of Anglo-Saxon designs and arches. The current font is constructed from a ancient cross base that is also infused with Celtic and Scandinavian motifs. (Images 7 and 8) -- source link
