Long-sleeved outer robe (uchikake), 1800-1867, Japan, with design of floral medicine ball ornaments (kusudama) and hanging bamboo screens across the middle of the robe in green, yellow, brown, white and blue silk and gilt paper strip discontinuous supplementary patterning wefts on a blue-gray silk damask ground with woven vertical serpentine foliage pattern; three oak leaf crests embroidered in white silk along the upper back; lined with red silk and padded at the hem.
