When you stare at so many nudes, and comment on them, and transform them, you cannot ignore the fact that you yourself end up in a privileged position. You cannot avoid that you’re really only there in the first place because of who you are: a genetically privileged white man. I mean, seriously: I used “you” in the first few sentences here ASSUMING that “you” are like “me” – white and male. Such privilege. Ultimately, the only way to let go of that privilege, of course, is to let yourself be objectified as well. Picasso, of course, knows this, but he wouldn’t let anyone else do the objectification.
