I’ll swim against the tide here and say I’m a big fan of the idea that a BIG game doesn’t always mean a great game. A lot of people think that the bigger it is, the better it is. Breath of the Wild executes the BIG open-world style very well in my opinion. You only really just do what you want, but the more you do, the more rewarding the experience becomes. The Zelda experience is definitely there. Four dungeons and a master sword to find. But within this framework is a gargantuan world in which everything is interactive. Every animal can be hunted and most bigger ones can be mounted. You can cook, fish, hunt, mine, catch bugs, climb anything, soar through the sky, solve puzzles scattered about, treasure hunt, increase your stamina and hearts help your fellow man, gather ingredients and find interesting ways to cook them. There are hundreds of little stories that you can make, because you can do almost anything and go anywhere. And then when you do decide to progress The Main Quest, you get rewarded very handsomely with skills that make the game ever smoother and easier to navigate. This is not only the biggest Zelda game, it’s size and interactivity with the world also make it the most immersive and rewarding. It was heavily intimidating for me at first, but I soon learned that this game is one you can learn at your own pace. You may not want to do certain things at first, but the rewarding nature of the game encourages you to step out of your comfort level and WANT to do these things. Hell, I prematurely snuck into Hyrule castle last night just to find a certain treasure, and it ended up becoming an epic adventure of its own merit. Of all the games I’ve played, Breath of the Wild can be made your own game in so many ways. Nintendo really threw all the punches with this one, and I love it! Yeah, there are a few minor annoyances, but overall they are very easy to get over in the scope of things. Overall, Breath of the Wild may just be my favorite Zelda game, and that’s saying a lot from a lifelong diehard Ocarina of Time fan. This may just be the game that broke that curse and dethroned one of the greatest games ever, by being an even greater game in many regards! Long live the Wild! -- source link
