This is a series of buildings on my grandmother’s land. They were all very prominent in my childhood, therefore I’ve named them “Childhood Havens.” The barn was always a fun place. The loft was our clubhouse as children, where we would spend time planning things that never happened, drawing, and reading together. My cousins and I, we were adventurous children, and these buildings were the pinnacles of our imagination. The chicken coop was always a terrifying place to us. We would pretend to have “ghost-seeing” powers and claim that we saw people hanging from the ceiling. The ostrich house was also a club house to us, although it did, at one point, house ostriches owned by my grandparents. We decorated the ostrich house with figurines and drawings. All of those things are still in there. It’s too hard to get to them, however, as the thick plants are covering everything we changed. All of these buildings survived a fire that ripped through the land before my grandparents owned it. The house was burnt down, and the house that stands now was put there by my grandparents. Everything is very eerie on this part of the land, and anytime we stay at Grandma’s house, there is a presence there that nobody can explain. My grandparent’s don’t know what happened to the people whose house burned down. We’ve theorized over the years that they died with the house. I guess we’ll never know. -- source link
