minutemanworld-blog:The 18th century fascination with memento mori is very interesting to me. Some beautiful (and at the same time slightly macabre) pieces of jewelry have come from mourning jewelry. This particular ring is from 1728. I love this piece because it’s not as ostentatious or obnoxious as some memento mori pieces are, but it still holds true to the tradition. Inside the ring is the initials of the person being mourned and the dates. The ring itself is black, and an elongated skeleton is overlaid on the outside. To complete the look the crystal is coffin shaped, and within the crystal is the figure of another skeleton. -- source link
