AND THEN HE CHOSE HIS BEST AGENT (also a woman, who probably reminded fury a lot of Carol herself) TO HELP RECRUIT PEOPLE THEY THOUGHT WOULD LIVE UP TO CAROL’S LEGACY.Now yes, most of them weren’t actually chosen to be avengers. Thor just popped in because it was his brother making all the mess. Bruce was being scouted, but they had concerns about the Hulk. Tony was told about the initiative, then denied because he “doesn’t play well with others.” Cap had only been out of the ice for 2 weeks and they probably never even thought about letting him in on it–at least not for a long time. Clint was only roped in because he was basically held hostage. And Natasha may have initially been a part of it in furys mind, but on the outside it seemed like she was just there to recruit people.They may not have been initially chosen, they may not have been what fury originally wanted them to be, but when fury looked at those 6 people, he saw “the most able individuals humankind has to offer.” They were able not just because they were smart, strong, and resourceful, but because together they had Carol’s soul. They had something that was so… recklessly persistent that he knew he didnt feel the need to call Carol in for the battle of New York, or for sokovia, or when the convergence was happening in london, for when Hydra infiltrated shield, or any of the other major things that went down both on and off screen between 2012 and 2018. Fury only, ONLY called Carol in years later when people started disappearing into thin air. He ONLY called her when he thought maybe his Avengers–the people that lived up to Carol’s legacy as a hero–were no longer around to protect the world.Because Carol Danvers is the Original Avenger. I dont care what the first captain america movie’s title is, fury started the avengers because of her. Without Carol Danvers, there is no Avengers Initiative and there are no Avengers. -- source link
