Cullach is a Halfling (lightfoot) bard (collage of satire). Here’s his backstory:Growing up, I had a modest life. Ma and Pa put in the effort to try and support my desire for adventure. While they couldn’t do everything, they were able to do enough. I’ve only ever received one birthday present from my parents, and it’s the hat I wear on my head. I remember what they told me when they gave it to me.. they said, “Cullach, sometimes people are going to try and convince you that the sky is falling around you, that you aren’t good enough, and that you’ll never accomplish what you’re starting. Well we want to give you this hat as a reminder to ignore those people. When you’re wearing a hat like this, all you have to do is keep your head forward, look dead-ahead at whatever it is you’re trying to accomplish, and you won’t even be able to notice if the sky is falling or not. Keep your determination and lust for adventure, Cullach.”They gave me that hat on my 12th birthday. The following morning they went out on an expedition in the jungle, and I never saw them again.Once I realized I had to start taking care of myself, I started working at the museum my parents used to work at, The Museum of Ancients. I started off as a desk-clerk, but after a year of working, our local Bard (who happened to be our exhibit tour-guide.. his name was Johill Jest, a human), decided to take me under his wing. He taught me his ways for two years before recommending that I travel to Fochlucan, the Bard College in Silverymoon (the college he attended). Since I had no reason not to, I attended Fochlucan for the next few years, specifically studying in the department of Satire and storytelling.During my time at the college, I realized that I still had a sense of wonderlust, and a heavy interest in searching for lost artifacts. I enlisted a friend I made in the college, a half-orc female by the name of Thih Kux, to go on a few adventures with me in our free time, and she loved it. Eventually, I learned all I could from the college, and I was feeling the itch to explore anyways, so I decided to come back to Chult and offer my services doing what my parents had done–find artifacts. Well, it turns out that exploring is expensive, so I had to find a way to pay for the expenses of my expeditions that the Museum wouldn’t cover. That’s when I found Popos (a human monk) at the local tavern. We set up a fight club to raise funds for both of us, and he even helped out on a few of my expeditions. Later, at that same tavern, Valen (a half-elf warlock) overheard me talking with Popos about an expedition and how risky it was going to be. Valen immediately offered his services, and we have since become very close. After my first few expeditions, the fates hit me with something heartbreaking. As the artifact I was searching for came into sight, so did a familiar face. Thih. She smiled at me, and said something dumb as a goon of hers came up from behind me and knocked me unconscious. She then stole the artifact I was hunting and sold it to the highest bidder instead of gifting it to the Museum. Ever since that day, she has been a thorn in my side. I have to be careful who I let in on my expedition plans, because it seems like she is able to buy her way into lots of information. She never was able to figure out the more tricky riddles and mysteries behind the artifacts, but she does have a lot of money and influence. While the jungles of Chult have always been a danger, I’m usually able to avoid confrontation. Recently, that has changed. The jungle seems to be getting more and more dangerous with each day.I’m also a language professor at the Chult University. -- source link
