pom-seedss: yayfeminism: optimism-is-the-greatest-weapon: nearly-headless-horseman: yayfeminism: Corporations using millennials increasing anxiety and self hatred to market.. of course they are, deteriorating mental health is belittled so its a joke that u can easily solve with buying things A lot of these accounts are run by millenials. It is likely it was posted as something they thought was funny and relatable. Considering the fact I see these jokes are made all the time by millenials themselves It was made to promote a corporation as friendly and relatable, so that millennials would spend more money on it. Any specific employee isn’t the issue. Making light of depression and anxiety (which is partly increasing because of rising inequality) to advertise is disturbing. It seems McDonalds realised their joke didn’t work as intended as they have since deleted the tweet. A depressed teen making an edgy joke on social media is different to a billion dollar corporation promoting fast food with anxiety If this showed up on someone’s personal account I wouldn’t bat an eye, because personal venting, frustration and trying to make light of your own shitty situation is one thing…. a corporation doing so on your behalf is a little… different. It’s like those “You’re never going to retire, why should your boots?” and “The harder you work, the nicer vacation your boss goes on. Don’t get mad at your boss for making more than you, invest in our company!” Like… these large corporations eroding working conditions and other worker rights is the cause of all the increased anxiety, depression, inequality. So now they caused the problem and are now trying to capitalize by joking about it. Like… folks posting this sort of thing on their personal accounts are trying to cope with the capitalist world that is crushing them… folks posting this sort of thing on corporate advertising accounts is just… more crushing. -- source link
