theauspolchronicles: A NSW police officer slammed a 16 year old Indigenous boy face down onto pavement. The distressing footage can be found in the link. The police officer is having a conversation with a group of people where (presumably) the boy off screen says “I don’t need to open my ears, I’ll crack you across the jaw bro” in response to the police officer saying “open up your ears.”Instead of de-escalating the situation or remaining calm, the adult police officer immediately storms over to the minor to arrest him, sweeps the boy’s legs from underneath him, and slammed him against the pavement. The boy’s shoulder was bruised, his knees, face, and elbow received cuts, and his teeth were chipped from the force that he was hurled to the ground. He was later taken to hospital. The assistant commissioner refused to comment if this counted as excessive force. Somehow it’s not clear that if someone’s rude to you from a distance it’s inappropriate to injure someone so bad they need x-rays to see if their bones are broken. I guess it’s time for teachers to start smashing heads against tables in retaliation for offensive language. The teenager’s sister commented “Teenagers, they’re lippy, but you don’t just abuse children because they’re lippy.”The officer is now under investigation and on “restricted duties.” -- source link
