inanehipsterslang: more initial/alternate headcanons A really early short story idea about Jake in denial about his pent up issues during the war; and Jess and Rachel’s attempts to save him before he does something everyone would regret. This was the start of the GE fanfic ideas since Jess had encountered something similar before with Eagle but I didn’t know exactly what went down so it spiraled from there. Colin has a bodyguard/tutor/assistant, an older female Blue Moon veteran sniper officer. Figured that, hey, even if he’s an intelligent CO with full responsibilities, he’s still a kid and the heir of a very rich and influential family so he’d be assigned an officer (secretly hired by his family?!) who’d teach and protect him simultaneously. Never did anything more with the idea but I kinda reused the concepts elsewhere. Alternate interpretation where Eagle doesn’t keep his father’s goggles out of affection or honor, but as constant reminder to never to end up like him: an excellent fighter pilot, a country’s hero, who was a harsh and unforgiving father to his son. When it’s said Eagle joined the Airforce to honor his father’s legacy, what Eagle wants is to go beyond him and be the good man. An attempt to go for a different character reading while trying to keep it ‘canon’ to the information presented in the games: Eagle keeps the goggles constantly, but he never mentions his father once, only that he swears on his ‘lucky goggles’. Another attempt at alternate character interpretation: Kanbei and Sonja’s mom were forced into a marriage that severely buckled under the stress of politics and royal family issues. The constant stress got to Mama Sonja, and she fell ill and died. Kanbei, who was raised to be a stoic warrior leader, feels remorse to how he wasn’t able to be there for his wife and then focuses all his guilt and affection on their only daughter. I-I’m not fond of this one, even as an exercise. I mean, yes, there’s so many interpretations you could get from so little information but Kanbei seems like he would have a very soft and tender spot for his family. Although, again something like this scenario shows up for other character’s backstories. Some time ago when I first played Dual Strike and got to the Green Earth part and met Javier, I pretty much loved him. I joked with my bro that I totally wanted a female equivalent of Javier and Grimm: a quirky middle-aged CO with an anachronistic fashion sense. Instead of medieval times, I settled on the American Civil War, and she’d have Grimm’s body type but instead of high attack, she’d have high defense, even if she’s wielding guns and a sword (???). I didn’t realize that Javier was supposed to be the ‘defense guy’, at that point I just thought him as the com tower guy. I think this is the most obvious recycled idea now, haha. My earliest headcanon for Drake was that he was a pirate from a way-off port city and he had a mom whom he loved a lot. Times were hard; pirating was a necessity so they and everyone else wouldn’t starve to death I GUESS. His dad was some aristocratic naval dude but he probably died or Drake and his mom were low in the social chain and he never bothered with them. Drake doesn’t think about him much, honestly. Drake doesn’t harbor any ill will since he’s pretty good-natured– a father just was never a fact of life. When he meets Eagle, he just kinda wonders how anyone could be fixated with a father figure, never having one himself. Also Eagle was after his head because damn it pirates stop stealing from Green Earth Instead of medieval times, I settled on the American Civil War, and she’d have Grimm’s body type but instead of high attack, she’d have high defense, even if she’s wielding guns and a sword (???).Unnamed Hi-Def Civil War Grandma my beloved -- source link
